The Stafford Orchestra has been awarded a grant by the Ambache Charitable Trust to promote concerts which include women’s music, including a commissioned new works and arrangements by composer Dr Angela Elizabeth Slater.
Angela is currently conducting the orchestra, and was delighted that the orchestra’s past work in performing works by women composers had been recognised. The grant will allow the orchestra to continue to explore works by women composers.
Gillian Baskett, the orchestra’s chair, added that the orchestra had worked very hard to support the project. She hopes that the grant would be the first of many the orchestra would attract.
Angela is also the founder and artistic director of Illuminate Women’s Music which promotes the work of emerging women composers and performers.
The next concert is in All Saints Church, Bednall, on 14 March at 7:30pm and includes works by Anna Maria Martinez, a pupil of Haydn’s.
